Longing Only for God

You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1

David sought God with every fiber of his being.

David craved God. He longed for God as one longs for water when parched.

Like David’s longing for God, what do you seek?

What does your flesh cry out for?

What deep longing do you yearn to satisfy?

Love? Acceptance? Worth? Money? Power? Influence? Authority?

Or do you, too, long for God as David did?

Let’s go back to Psalm 63 and think about the last time you were thirsty. I mean really parched. Wasn’t that deep drink of water incredibly satisfying?

It’s as if when drinking it, your cells immediately cried out for joy.

Maybe you refilled your cup, drinking another entire glass just as quickly. You set the glass down and instantly felt better. Why? Because your human self is dependent on water and when your cells are deprived, they begin to shrivel up and die.

We were also created to crave God like our body craves water and nourishment. When we don’t have God in our life, we begin to crave other things to fill the empty space. Other things from the world like worth, acceptance, and love. And when we don’t choose God to fill our empty space, we begin to shrivel up and die.

Finding your worth in this world finds yourself bowing to your flesh instead of God.

Craving acceptance in this world finds yourself bowing to whims and fads instead of God.

Longing for love in this world will find yourself lonely and desperate as you seek the love from this world instead of God.

Allow God to fill you instead with Himself. Any area of your life where you feel that deep longing, give it to God. Tell Him what you’re longing and ask Him to help you.

As one who follows God, we know what to do. We know God’s living water is unlimited and always available.

Yet old habits are hard to stop. We often begin relying on ourselves when issues arise, instead of drinking from God’s powerful well of life.

Return to your first love: God. Write down or speak to Him all the ways you’ve neglected to put Him first. You know.

Repent. And ask Him to help you put Him first once again. He will. And the next time you’re tempted to live from within yourself alone, repent once more, asking Him to lead you. As you purposely place God first, it will become easier and easier to depend only on Him. And as He leads you, your soul will once again long only for Him.

Are You Caught?

God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will. 2 Timothy 2:25-26

Ever thought about the devil capturing people to do his bidding?

Happens. All the time.

Yikes. Is it you? Are you caught?

Are you caught justifying your decisions because you have very good reason to do so?

Are you caught thinking you are doing exactly what God wants you to do, yet you live from within your flesh not God?

2 Timothy mentions those that are caught don’t know they are enslaved.

They haven’t come to their senses. They are ignorant.

Not blameless. Just blind. Fully engaged in the devil’s plan, yet unaware they are ensnared.

Yikes. So not cool. Can this happen to Christians?

Sure. We are saved and forgiven, yet still possess free will. And we’re human, so there’s that.

Our flesh tends to rise up to serve ourselves way too often than we’d like to admit.

So it’s easy for Christians to become caught if we’re not on guard. If we’re not purposing to live for God alone.

Ask yourself one question: does God have full reign in my life?

When you hand God full reign, you surrender your very self to Him. Your today, your tomorrow, your bank account and relationships are all His as an example. You rely on God more than you rely on your own reasoning.

Ask God to help you come to your senses. Repent for living for yourself as we all do from time to time. And begin again today living for God and God alone.

And the next time you’re tempted to walk apart from God, think of the net the devil has cast for you. And run for your life back to God!

Ever Lovin’ Minds

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct. 1 Peter 1:14-15

What is this world coming to?

Just look around and you’ll notice.

Parents deferring to screaming toddlers, bribing them to stop.

Grown adults holding fake animals as if they were real.

Students turning to AI so their homework is done in an instant.

Many choosing to believe social media rumors over actual facts.

Whole families bent over individual devices while going out to dinner.

I could go on and on. Deeper and deeper into real identity confusion.

While the world’s problems seem to scream in our faces, pause to see past it all.

What’s behind family division? Student cheating? Stroking your ego instead of peace?

The absence of God.

When God is absent, something else is in charge.

Your flesh. You. Your desires before all else.

As our mind begins to focus instead on self, we lose it. We lose our ever loving minds.

How? Slowly. Once we drink the desires of our flesh, whatever drug that may be, the positive reaction encourages the next sip. The next fix. The next lie.

And before you know it, we’ve gone down the road: hook, line, and sinker.

Look inward long enough, and you won’t recognize yourself when you finally begin to look outward.

Look down at your own feet long enough, and you won’t recognize the path you walk when you finally look up.

God must remain our focus.

God must remain our King.

God must remain our all in all.

Take stock today of your heart. Are you all His? Where have you replaced God, placing yourself first instead?

Where have you sought the pleasures of self before your submission to God?

Repent, confess, and point your compass back to God.

As you purpose to follow His will for each day, your mind will be renewed through His strength, peace, and love.

Let’s keep our ever lovin’ minds focused on God and God alone.

When you do, others will notice your freedom and peace amidst a world where God is not.

Fed Up

Are you as fed up as I am?

Fed up with the enemy trying to step foot into your life?

Trying to gain a foothold in your home and with your family?

How fed up are you?

Enough to do something about it?

Or will you simply complain from your comfy couch?

Reclaim your territory.

Declare your Savior in charge.

Of you.

Of your family.

In every inch of your precious home.

Psalm 44:5 reminds us: Through YOU we push back our enemies; through YOUR name we trample our foes.

Invite God to fill yourself, your family, and your home with His peace and knowledge of all things true.

Repent to God for participating with anything not of God.

And kick out the devil, reclaiming your family for God.

Folks, the battle is long.

The wars repeat.

It can seem to go on and on and on and on…

BUT: you must never lose faith.

You must never give up on the journey.

God is faithful.

He is sovereign over all.

Keep your peace and take back your family.

Let’s all be fed up with the enemy.

And show him Who is boss.

I’m dead serious.

Who’s with me?
